By: Allen Iser

If you were hoping for a wake-up call to get you to quit smoking for good, this is it. I have created a listing of the cold hard facts regarding smoking and the impact it may have on your life if you don't quit the habit.

The following are Some Sobering Statistics to Start off with:

-Worldwide, tobacco usage is the cause of more than 5 million deaths a year

-Cigarette smoking is the most preventable cause of death in the USA

-Recent trends show that tobacco usage will cause more than 8 million deaths yearly by 2030

-In the USA, cigarette smoking is responsible for about one in five deaths annually, or about 438,000 deaths annually

There is no doubt smoking kills. On average, smokers die 13-14 years younger than nonsmokers! That equates to 12 to 14 minutes taken from your life with every cigarette! Each and every one of those cigarettes you smoke is bringing you closer and closer to an early death.

Some Other Reasons to Quit Smoking for Good:

-A correlation has been found linking smoking and brain damage/premature senility

-Smoking makes you more irritable and argumentative, mostly due to subconscious understanding of the prior points

-If you smoke, your body will require more rest than a non-smoker. Additionally, smokers don't sleep as well as non-smokers

-Smokers find themselves sick more frequently than non-smokers. The average smoker is absent 7 1/2 work days per year in comparison to 4 1/2 for the non-smoker

-Food does not taste as satisfying for smokers. When a smoker's nasal passage is harmed by the effects of the myriad of chemical compounds found in cigarettes their ability to savor various tastes or aromas is lessened.

This is only a sampling of a much bigger list of issues. There are many more reasons to quit the habit for good. We may realize smoking is not healthy, but it helps to stop and think about all these facts to wake us up to the reality of what we are actually doing to our bodies.

I Hope this article has opened your eyes some and gave you additional insight into how smoking is negatively impacting your life. It is never too late to make a change...to quit smoking for good.
