Do Diets Make People Fatter?

By: Tom Kelly

With over 6000 diets and weight loss books out there all telling you different sorties and contradicting each other about how you should lose weight, It’s no wonder the USA is one of the fattest countries in the world. Did you know that 95% of people that go on a diet fail? That means you probably know several people that have tried and failed.
The diet industry makes billions of dollars a year coming up with new ideas that have no intention to helping you lose weight. They know you will eat up any new weight loss idea or product because you believe you’ve tried everything and you are hoping that the next big idea will help you lose weight. But the only thing you are doing is putting millions or even billions of dollars in the pockets of these companies. Just think for a minuet, if these diets and weight loss products worked, America would be thin and these companies wound go broke.
Every diet tells you to cut out one of these elements, fat, carbs, proteins or even calories. I will tell you right now you need all four of these to live a healthy life. The biggest way people think to lose weight is to just cut calories. What is a calorie? A calorie is a unit of heat that help assist in all body movement. So you need calories to live. What happens when you cut calories, you cut back on meals and you usually just eat salads and very low calorie foods. When this happens your body goes into starvation mode and start to store every food you take in. The reason it starts to store food is to use it later on down the road when you need it. So what happens is your metabolism slows down to a crawl and all the food you take in is stored as fat so the body can use it for energy later. So when you cut calories to lose weight you are actually making your body store fat.
So how come you lose weight when you start a low calorie diet? The reason you lose 5 or even 10 lbs the first two weeks is because your body is losing water and breaking down muscle to use a fuel. The body will actually start eating away at it self until you give up and start eating regularly. So why do I gain more weight when I go on a diet? Well, wile your body is in starvation mode, you start to get cravings. When you binge and eat a tub of ice cream or a big hamburger, you body says “Thank god, food”. Because your body thinks this is a one time thing, it will take everything you just ate and store it in your fat cell to use for energy later. So the reason you gain more is because you turn your body into a storing machine instead of a fat burning machine.
How can I lose weight? This first thing you need to do is get you metabolism working for you and not agenst you. To do this you need to consume a meal every 3 to 3 ½ hours. This will make your metabolism work all day long and get it back to full speed. Next you need to have a concern for muscle and moderate aerobic exercise. Muscle is what burns fat. So the more muscle you have the more fat you will burn. I found a company that designed a program around this concept and offers group classes and phone coaching to get you into the body you desire.
