How To Increase Your Capicity To Study Information And Eliminate Test Anxiety

By: Alan B. Densky, CH

If you are a person who is attempting to improve your grades, there are a number of shortcuts that can help you to augment your facility to sharpen your attention, memorize the materials that you study, and recall it during a test without suffering from mental blocks or test anxiety. Here are the best ways that I know to establish good learning habits:

(1) Establish a place for reading and only study in that place! Find a quiet place that will be conducive to concentration without any distractions. Some usual examples would be a library, a vacant classroom, or your home office. You will want to establish the routine of studying when you are in this special place. So it is best to not use this place for other activities like daydreaming, conversations, or playing music, etc.

BE SURE YOUR SPECIAL PLACE HAS:

(a) A comfortable chair, but not excessively comfortable

(b) Your desk

(c) First class light

(d) Good air flow

BE SURE YOUR SPECIAL PLACE DOES NOT HAVE:

(a) Distracting views of other activities

(b) A phone

(c) Loud music

(d) A big screen television

(e) A companion who talks too much

(f) A refrigerator filled with snacks

(2) Divide your work into tiny, short-range projects.

(a) Set up small specific goals like, "I'm going to study my chemistry from 1 PM to 2 PM. Or else you will be setting yourself up to fall short.

(b) Set a accessible study goal for the amount of time you are able to allocate. For example: finish reading chapter eight in my English text, or complete a draft of my English paper, etc. Set your goals at the time that you are ready to sit down and study, just before you begin. Set doable goals. You may do more than reach your goal, but set a realistic goal even if it seems way too easy.

(3) Test Phobias

(a) Some students mostly experience physical symptoms, like feeling hot or cold, nausea, or faintness, etc.

(b) Other students experience emotional symptoms for the most part, like feeling frustrated, irritable, or crying easily.

(c) The main dilemma with anxiety is that it can cause you to have a memory block. Or it could trigger thoughts that are racing out of control.

(d) Although you may feel some level of anxiety when taking exams, you can learn to diminish that anxiety, or even completely eliminate it!

(e) Anxiousness and the resultant stress are more often than not the main causes of a lack of the ability to focus your attention. Stress can also trigger a mental block when you try to recollect information.

(f) Hypnosis CD's can be utilized to relax your mind and focus your concentration. As your mind calms down, your ability to stay focused will increase. Similarly, a calm mind enhances your ability to retain information, and recall it when it is needed.

(g) Hypnosis CD's can also be used to program your mind for the positive expectation of peace and the ability to recall information during a test. This is effective at reducing or eliminating test anxiety. (h) There are a number of NLP methods that can promptly get rid of a test phobia!
