How to cure a golf slice

By: Rick Gargin

Here you will find interesting and hopefully useful to you tips and tricks on how to cure the golf slice.

Slicing is the golfer's worst nightmare. Admit it, playing golf with a slice takes away the joy from the game, yet some people keep on slicing for years. The problem is not that complicated, all it takes is will to do it and knowledge, otherwise you will never experience golf to the fullest. So if you want to reach higher levels in golf, pay attention to the lines bellow.

Let's start with the basics. First of all, let's give an explanation to what golf slice actually is. Slice is a term describing a specific left-to-right type of trajectory of the golf ball for right-handers, the opposite is true for lefties. Either way, a slice ends up right (or left) of the target line. Every golfer tries to hit the ball squarely and straight, but if the club face is slight open at the point of action in one direction, it will cause the ball to spin which will ultimately make the ball go left or right.

To avoid slicing the ball, try to keep the club face squared during the swing until the very moment of impact. If you twist the club in left or right direction, you will slice. To achieve the ideal direction of the club face, you must have a correct grip, proper body setup and good body action.

The most common reason for a slice is the grip is too weak and too tight with the handle in the palm's tree. Make sure your motion is controllable, it's about gently swinging the club, not haking it. If you look at how Pro golfers do it, you will see that they don't put much pressure into their swing, they do it almost effortlessly.

To achieve a consistent and sharp golf swing, it's all about balance and rhythm. If you are nervous and perform the motion too fast, then you will loose your balance resulting in poor ball flight. Expert golfers usually say - "swing easy and hit hard." Having a right setup is also an essential element. You must have your weight equally balanced between your left and right foot.

Remember, golf is a mental sport. 90% of the whole thing depends on your mind set. The level of concentration makes the difference. Because, it's one thing to know it in theory, putting your knowledge into practice is sometimes harder than anticipated. Once you know the theoretical part, it will depend on you and your focus.

Of course, nothing happens overnight. Even the best system doesn't provide instantaneous results. A lot of good and proven systems can be found online, but just buying one or several of them won't fix it for you. Practice makes perfect.
