Installing Laminate Flooring: How to Handle Tough Angles in 3 Easy Steps

The classic way to tackle angles when laying laminate flooring is to pull out the old measuring tape, take some measurements, then try to cut the flooring to fit the angle. This method usually results in not only wasted planks of flooring but also wasted time and much frustration.

The technique in this article uses a specialized tool made especially for laminate, hardwood and ceramic tile flooring jobs. This specialized tool is called an anglebuster.

The Anglebuster is essentially a ruler with two arms which the user swings into place to mimic the angle. It also has four grout gauges, made to fit four common grout spacing sizes for tile jobs. No grout spacers are required for laminate flooring projects, Instead a non-slip attachment is used.

First, attach the non-slip attachment to the anglebuster, then position the tool on the completed portion of the laminate floor, using the end of the next plank as a datum. If there isn't enough space, the user can go off one of the marks on the ruler. Swing the arms into position, then transfer the tool to the strip of laminate flooring to be cut.

Second, butt the anglebuster to the edge of the laminate plank to be cut. Trace the angles onto the plank using a carpenter's pencil, or marker. If additional angles must be set and transferred use the anglebuster to position, transfer and mark the additional angles to be cut.

Third, if the lines you have drawn do not connect, use a straight edge ruler to connect the lines with your marker, then cut the laminate plank and fit into place for a professional job without the hassle.

Anglebuster can be used for any type of flooring projects for a fast, easy, and snug fit every time.
