What Sells On eBay?

By: Scott Douglas

Determining what to sell on eBay is one of the major choices you will need to make. Considering there are more than 20,000 categories and sub-categories, your alternatives are almost unending.

Almost all eBay marketers caught “the eBay bug” the same way. In the beginning, they began hawking a scattering of items around the house to generate some extra money. Then, when they found out how simple it was to transform “dust collectors” into cold hard cash in only a few days, they began hawking practically anything that wasn't nailed down.

This works great for a little while. Selling unwanted items out of your closet, or deals that you run across at garage sales is excellent preparation and can assist you to learn the basics of the eBay auction business. Nonetheless, you may never earn any serious cash by hawking these types of “one off” articles.

The key to making big money on eBay is to sell “cookie cutter” items that can be resold repeatedly. Your aim ought to be to find products that will sell rapidly and for a significant amount of profit. You also want to locate products that can be marketed in quantity.

As soon as you find the top selling products on eBay that bring in bids like cows to a salt lick, all you have to do is relist the articles every time one sells. I like to call these “cookie cutter” products. You only have to do the job of putting in place the eBay auction one time. Then, you only have to click a single button to relist the article and continue selling it over and over again the same way. McDonald's, Walmart, Macy's and eBay Power Sellers all use this method.

Consumable products are usually the most lucrative income generators of all. Following the first sale, the article will be consumed and your buyer will need to buy it again. Over time, you will be able to form a loyal client base that will purchase from you over and over, generating a residual revenue stream.

Finding hot products to sell on eBay is kind of like going fishing. If you hope to snag a boatload of fish, you first need to find out where the fish are hiding and what they are biting. If you fish in a pond with no fish, or if you use unappetizing bait, you'll never snag any fish. The strategy for hooking as many fish as you desire is to cast the proper bait into a creek full of hungry fish.

By the same token, you will never find out the way to make money on eBay if you are trying to market an item that is in low demand to a very small group of buyers. If you hope to make a truckload of cash on eBay, the trick is to find an item that is in high demand and list it for auction in the right category.
