Writing Home & Real Estate Articles

By: Patrick McMahon

As an amateur writer, coming up with content readers want to read is sometimes difficult. It helps when you are first starting off to write about what you know. Write about things you have lots of life experience with. In my case, I am a home inspector by profession and have been in construction for over 20 years, so I write about homes, home inspections and related issues. Every day I’m giving advise to clients, so I put it down on paper…well, electronic paper.

If your knowledge is home improvement or Real Estate related, write about that. There are many, many readers out there looking for your knowledge. Help them by sharing your knowledge.

Keep it simple. Most readers want enough information to be informed, but not too much as to where the content is over their head. When that happens, they will lose interest and try another article. Your real intent is to educate them, while at the same time promoting yourself.

Don’t start selling them your service right away. Save it for the end in the resources section. People get bored quickly with sales pitches. If you educate them first, they will take the time to read about you.

Keep it short. Try not to get too wordy. People start by looking at how long an article is before reading it. If it’s too long, they will just look for another one.

The home improvement and real estate markets are huge! 50 % of the population will buy a home in their lifetime. That’s 125 million potential readers. People want information. Give it to them. Educate them.

If you do all of the above, you will educate a customer, sell yourself and promote your business, which benefits everyone.
